Note: NYSED requires a physical exam for new entrants and students in Grades Pre-K or K, 1, 3, 5, and 7; annually for interscholastic sports, and working papers as needed; or as required by the Committee on Special Education (CSE) or Committee on Pre-School Special education (CPSE).
Volunteering at WHMS
WHMS parents are invited to join our committees.
The Diversity committee is an inclusive working group of parents, teachers, staff, and students who are committed to increasing awareness and appreciation of benefits of diversity for all of our children and the entire school community. Membership is open. All are encouraged to attend.
Our Green Team committee plans initiatives to educate and have students participate in activities and initiatives to help students learn and practice ways to help preserve earth’s resources. Activities have included the ‘no waste’ school lunch initiative, recycling that included a trip to the recycling center, tree planting, gardens to grow food, educational displays to educate the community about reducing waste. The Farm-to-School Committee works towards developing activities to enhance classroom education relating to food, health, agriculture, and nutrition. Meetings will include topical discussions such as local food procurement, gardening practices, lesson ideas, and how to encourage healthy choices. This year the committee will establish both long-term and short-term goals for Woodland Hill.
The Gala is our biggest fundraising event of the year. Typically, 200 members of the WHMS community gather for a sit-down dinner, music and dancing, along with an auction of classroom projects and other items. In 2021, the Gala was virtual, but we are hoping for an in-person event in the spring of 2022.
Friends of WHMS
Through the Friends of WHMS, parents are given the opportunity to help the WHMS community through planning special events and fundraising for the school.
Admissions Ambassador/Open Houses
Throughout the school year, WHMS holds several Open Houses. We are always looking for parents who are interested in welcoming prospective families and answering questions. We will provide training.
This committee is tasked with designing programming and determining needed materials for the space.
Megan is looking for volunteers to help with art room tasks, including hanging up artwork in the halls and prepping supplies for classes.
To join a committee, please complete this form and we will be in touch.
